Note: Does our code style guide prefer specific direction properties over
shorthand syntax? I like the way you are doing this personally. Although I would
usually use shorthand for the sake of filesize. NBD (No big deal) anyway.

From the coding style guide:
I decided to use specific direction properties in this case in particular
because it's sort of a utility class, and I don't want to style properties
unnecessarily. The only properties that *need* to be styled in this case is the
top and bottom, so I didn't want to override the left and right as well.
